Not every insider purchase is a conviction signal. Stock awards (code A), option exercises (code M), and purchases under 10b5-1 plans are routine. The strongest signals come from open-market purchases (code P) made outside of pre-arranged plans — where the insider actively chose to buy with their own capital.
